The name Piscataway is derived from its original settlers who lived near the Piscataqua River meaning “place of dark night”. Piscataway is a 19 square mile area in Middlesex County, New Jersey inhabited by 52,500 residents. In 2008, Money magazine ranked Piscataway 23rd out of the top 100 places to live in America.
The Piscataway Township Schools serves almost 7,000 students in kindergarten through twelfth grade. In addition to its high school, there are four schools that educate students in kindergarten through third grade, two intermediate schools serving grades fourth through fifth and three middle schools for students in grades six, seven and eight. The four elementary schools are Eisenhower Elementary School, Grandview Elementary School, Knollwood Elementary School and Randolphville Elementary School collectively serving over 2,000 students. The two intermediate schools in Piscataway are Arbor Intermediate School and Martin Luther King Intermediate School educating just about 1,000 children. The three middle schools educating student’s sixth grade through eighth grade include Conackamack Middle School, Quibbletown Middle School and Theodore Schor Middle School collectively educating more than 1,500 youth. Piscataway High School has approximately 2,000 plus students enrolled to date. This town also has several vocational and technical schools as well as a few schools that specialize in the education of students with Autism. There are four private schools in Piscataway educating children of all ages. The Busch and Livingston Campuses of Rutgers University, the Piscataway Campus of the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, Cortiva Institute - Somerset School of Massage Therapy, and the Piscataway Campus of Gibbs College are all located in this town as well.
Piscataway is located right along Interstate 287, a major highway in New Jersey. Route 22 is also to the north.
