Lambertville is considered one of the oldest communities in Hunterdon County, New Jersey as it was settled in 1705. The village grew into an industrial center with the help of the Delaware and Raritan Canal. Lambertville has changed little over the past hundred years; with Victorian and Federal row houses still line the streets. The industrial center has become artist studios, galleries, shops and restaurants, with a population of over 3,000.
New Jersey's longest park, the Delaware and Raritan Canal State Park, runs through Lambertville, allowing the banks of the Delaware River to maintain its’ opulence. Annually, in April or May, the city celebrates the return of the Shad, a fish popular in the area. The festival includes vendors' booths and others of the like focusing on the area's arts community.
The Lambertville School District serves students Pre-K through grade six. Lambertville Public School had an enrollment of 177 students as of the 2005-06 school year.
