Located in the northern part of Hunterdon County, New Jerseys its Califon; a small community of about 1,000 residents. This borough was originally named after the East coast state of California, but it was said to have been shortened to better fit the train depot signs! The Califon Historical Society has registered 170 buildings/structures with the National Register of Historic Places. Califon is a Victorian-style enclave where the houses are marked with the names of the builders and their dates of establishment rather than with street numbers.
The Califon School District serves students in public school for kindergarten through eighth grade. Students grades nine through twelve attend North Hunterdon-Voorhees Regional High School. This schools educates children from Glen Gardner, Hampton, High Bridge, Lebanon and Tewksbury.
Califon is a bit removed from major roadways adding to the quant friendly enviorment of the borough. Interstate 78, Route 22, and State Highways 31, 52 and 24 all surround Califon.
