Bernardsville is located in the northern most part of Somerset County, New Jersey on almost 13 square miles of land. This rustic community sits in some of the last vestiges of the Great Eastern Forest. Bernardsville was originally a section of Bernards Township known as Vealtown, but in the mid 1800’s the borough's name changed to honor Sir Francis Bernard, a Colonial governor in the mid to late 1700’s. The Gladstone Branch Railroad line was built through Bernardsville in 1872 and played an important role in the borough's development. Bernardsville has about 7,700 residents.
The Somerset Hills Regional School District serves kindergarten through twelfth grade students from Bernardsville, Far Hills, Peapack – Gladstone and Bedminster. Bedwell Elementary School educates students in kindergarten through grade four, with an enrollment of about 700 students. Bernardsville Middle School serves approximately 550 students in grades five through eight, and Bernards High School, located in Bernardsville, educates almost 800 students in grades nine through twelve.
The best route in and out of Bernardsville would be Interstate 287, a major roadway in New Jersey.
